“The Expat Explorer Survey 2010” report has named Thailand as the best country in the world to live in terms of quality of life, followed by Bahrain, South Africa and Canada.
Commissioned by HSBC Bank International, the Expat Explorer is the world’s largest and most comprehensive global survey of expats. The report focuses on expats experience of setting up in a new country of residence and integrating into local society as well as their quality of life in comparison to where they previously lived.
It seems of no coincidence that the countries which featured highly on HSBC’s list of countries offering the best quality of life were are also popular retirement destination. The HSBC survey also revealed that a large number of expatriates have chosen their host country as a permanent abode and plan to remain there for many years to come. In Thailand, 56% of expatriates surveyed had already been living in the country for five years or more and 47% of them said that they planned to remain for life.
For sheer diversity, Thailand, the ‘Land of Smiles’ is hard to beat – whether you are looking for exotic cities or an unspoilt island paradise. Factor in stunning beaches, lush landscapes, jungles, beautiful mountains, fantastic temples and delicious cuisine. Thai people are very hospitable and friendly with deep-rooted traditions and culture. Thailand has to be the expat’s dream: a country of astonishing natural beauty that is inhabited by some of the friendliest and most hospitable people in the world while offering low cost of living compared to other more established retirement destinations.
In terms of healthcare, the country has developed an excellent reputation globally. Medical hospitals and dental centres are among the most advanced facilities in the world. The services are absolutely first-class at affordable prices, typically at a fraction of the cost in the west.
The country is family friendly with a great number of international schools and colleges offering world-class education.
Thailand also enjoys a strategic location and serves as a gateway into the heart of Asia – home to what is today the largest growing economic market. Thailand has also good infrastructure with modernized transportation facilities, as well as upgraded communications and IT networks that ensure optimum business and living conditions.
The Thailand property market attracts an increasing number of foreign investors looking to purchase property either as a retirement, holiday home, second home or as an investment.
